Site Inspection of Red Canyon Quarry in Red Creek <br />near Penrose, Teller County, Colorado, Action No. 199900354 <br />22 May 00 <br />Location Observations and Findings <br />Site 1. Upper crossing Red Creek is 5-15 ft wide and dry.. <br />of Red Creek (UTM Zone 13 A side arroyo enters from a easy <br />0504456e, 4272154n**) through an 18" culvert. All fills <br />at site comply with NWP#14 and 26. <br />Site 2. Red Creek <br />channel at driveway <br />(05044/le, 4272343 n) <br />Site 3. Red Creek <br />crossing near quarry <br />weigh station at north <br />loop road to Stark home <br />(0504473e, 4272450n) <br />Red Creek is about 20 ft wide at top <br />and 3-4 ft wide at the bottom. <br />Channel is dry with riprap on sides <br />and bottom. All fills at site <br />comply with NWP#26. About 100 ft NE <br />is a Load Class 12 timber bridge <br />authorized by either NWP#14 or 26. <br />Red Creek crossing is paved and <br />crossing consists of one 60" <br />culvert, creek is dry. Original <br />crossing was reported to be an 18" <br />culvert. The crossing was reported <br />to be upgraded in the early 80's to <br />a 48" culvert and the 60" culvert <br />was reported to be placed in April <br />2000. All fills at site comply with <br />either NWP#14 or 26. <br />Site 4. Lower Sediment Sediment detention basin is off <br />basin stream and has a rock riprap outlet <br />(0504529e, 4272612n) works. Basin is reported to contain <br />12 acre feet (af) j..~ of reported as <br />required). Owner reported basin <br />breached during May 99 event. No <br />breach during later events. No <br />regulated activity, basin not <br />jurisdictional. <br />Site 5. Red Creek about <br />500 downstream of quarry <br />working face <br />(0504568e, 4272690n) <br />Site 6. Red Creek <br />(0504563e, 4272786n) <br />Streambank is riprapped on quarry <br />side only. Small quantity of water <br />flowing under riprap on stream <br />bottom. Riprap at site is <br />authorized by NWP#26. <br />Riprap ended, natural stream about 5 <br />ft wide. A little more water <br />present in channel. No regulated <br />activity. <br />-1- <br />
