Species
• Pubescent Wheatgrass
Indian Ricegrass
Western Wheatgrass
Sideoats Grama
Little Bluestem
Mountain Muhly
Arizona Fescue
Cicer Milk vetch (innoc. & scarified)
Blue Grama

Rate (lbs, PLS/acre)
6
4
6
4
2
2
2
2
2
30
Seeding will be done by broadcasting uniformly over the
prepared site. Drilling of the seed has been considered and rejected for
two reasons. First, most drills would be all but destroyed in the rocky
medium and the rangeland drills that can be used are very cumbersome
and are generally incapable of properly planting fluffy seeds without
being mixed with large, smooth seeds like oats.'. Second, the slopes are
so steep equipment operation would be very dangerous.
• After the seed has been broadcast the seeded area will be
dragged lightly to bury the seed. In this medium much of the seed will
be placed between 1/2 and 1 inch deep using this method.
Irrigation - No irrigation will be used on the site. It is believed
that the natural precipitation combined with the east facing slope will
provide a suitable moisture regime for establishing the planned
vegetation.
woody Vegetation - Woody vegetation will be most difficult to
establish. Seeding of shrubs would probably not be successful in the
long run, although some tests of such may be done. Generally, any
woody vegetation will be planted as seedlings of transplants.
Species to be used will include Rhus trilobata (Skunkbrush),
• Cercocarpus montanus (Mountain Mahogany), Rosa woodsii (Wood Rose), and
Chrysothamnus auseosus (Rabbitbrush). Some of these are available from
P-E-11
