arvensel, and quackgrass (Flvtrigia repens), all restricted noxious weeds in Colorado
(Thornton et al. 1974), are also sparingly present at some locations.
Photographic Documentation
Within each vegetation type, representative color photographs were taken to document the
appearance of the vegetation in the areas studies in 1990, as well as those studied in 1992.
Statistical Methods
Sample adequacy calculations were carried out using the formula prescribed by CMLRD
(1988): -'
Nmin =
d2 XZ
t2 s2
where:
t 1.645 (two-tailed t-value with infinite degrees of freedom)
s = standard deviation (n-1)
d = 0.1 (level of precision or desired detectable reduction)
z =sample mean
Floristic Analysis •
All plants observed during field studies were noted, and where any question as to their
identity existed, they were collected, pressed and submitted to Dr. William A. Weber of the
University of Colorado Herbarium for verification. It should be noted that certain very
similar plants were not differentiated from each other during quantitative sampling because
diagnostic parts (e.g. flowers or below-ground parts) were not present or visible .These
included Eriogonum subaloin m-E. umbellatum, Bromelica sgectabilis-B. bu bosa, and
Geranium richardsonii- G. viscosissimum.

4
