The site drains in a south to
southwesterly direction. Physiographically, the site lies in the
Colorado Plateau Physiographic Province near its northwest margin
with the Southern Rocky Mountain Province. The site lies in an
area containing Cretaceous Age sediments such as the Mesa Verde
Group and the Mancos Shale. The bedrock associated with this
particular project consists of interbedded sandstones,
siltstones, shales and coals of the Mesa Verde Group. Colluvial
and residual soil cover in the vicinity of the site is naturally
relatively thin. The geologic investigation along with
information supplied to Rocky Mountain Geotechnical by Western
Associated Coal Company indicated that the bedrock orientation is
0
N5 E with a dip of five to 12 degrees.
6
