Section 779.22 (a) Continued.
(2) A narrative of land capability and productivity, which anaylzes the
land-use description under Paragraph (a) of this Section in conjunction
with other environmental resources information required under this Part.
The narrative shall provide analyses of:
(i) The capability of the land before any mining to support a variety
of uses, giving consideration to soil and foundation characteristics,
topography, vegetative cover and the hydrology of the proposed permit
area; and
(ii) The productivity of the proposed permit area before mining, ex-
pressed as average yield of food, fiber, forage, or wood products from
such lands obtained under high levels of management. The productivity
shall be determined by yield data or estimates for similar sites based
on current data from the U. S. Department of Agriculture, State agricul-
ture universities or appropriate State natural resource or agricultural
• agencies.
Overview of Present Land Uses
A map containing all of the land uses existing within the proposed
permit area for Energy Mines No. 1 and 2 and the Ecku~an Park area
can be found on the Tb*entymile Park Land Use (Map 31). The present
land use categories within the permit area as defined in 30 CFR
70]..5 are croyland, pastureland. and grazingland. The term rangeland
will be used interchangeably with grazingland in this application
as a land use description because rangeland is the term utilized on
all existing land use maps covering the area, (USDI, 1976) and is
designated as such on all existing county and federal land use maps
for the proposed permit area. These land use designations are
confirmed by the Land Use Map, Routt County (1973) prepared by the
Soil Conservation Service, U. S. Department of Agriculture.
•
779-302
