a depth of 10 feet below usual water surface level. .The lake bottom
between the shore and the island will be shallow to support aquatic
vegetation.
6. We appreciate and accept your suggestion of a seed mix.
C. EXfIIBIT F -Reclamation Plan Map
Area C's elevation will not change substantially. The only reclamation
at Area C will be seeding when topsoil removal has been crmy~leted. A
revised "Basic Reclamation Costs" sheet (page K-1) is enclosed which
includes cost of seeding Area C.
D. E~iIDIT i -Soils Information
Topsoiling costs on page K-1 are based on replacing 8 inches of topsoil.
The depth of soils replacement reflects Flatiron's conformance with the
landowner's request. Our lease agreement prevents removal of topsoil
from the site as a product. All topsoil available for replacsnent will
be used on the site.
E. EXEiIBIT J -Vegetation
The landowner states that this 149 acre farm currently supports approxi-
mately 100 eras for one nnnth per year.
F. EXFiIBTP K -Reclamation Costs
One of the complicating factors about this permit is that same of our work
on site is more agricultural land improvement than mining. Further, one
parcel of land is proposed only as a possible last phase of mminrnnq,
The following breakdoHm may clarify the situation. Only 41.8 acres is
proposed for mining at this time (Areas A and B). As you .pointed out,
seeding will need to be done on an additional 1.75 acres (Area C) fn7n which
sane topsoil will be raroved. The haul roads will remain as farm roads
at the landowner's request, thus replacing roads he lost when Interstate
70 was built. An additional 10.6 acres is designated as a future possible
mining area but no mining or reclamation is now proposed for it. To
summarize, 42 (41.8 rounded to 42.0) acres will be leveled, 37.5 acres
will be topsoiled (42.0 minus 4.5-acre lake), 24.5 acres of pasture
(22.7 acres plus 1.75 acres in Area C) and 14.8 acres of terrace slope
will be reseeded. Anew page K-1, Basic Reclamation Costs, is sutmitted
to reflect the changes in cost due to the change in seed mix and the
reseeding of 1.75 acres of Area C.
Our effort at this site will be to keep as much land as possible in
agricultural production at any given time. Can you please let me know
what procedures the MLRB now uses to figure bonds so that only the corst
case of actual disturbance is bonded? We should like to have this agreed
upon wall before the February Board meeting.
I hope this information adequately responds to your concerns about the Chambers application.
Sincerely,
~i.....T~'-~
(Mrs,aret Winter
