Description, and labeled #1 on the Mining Plan Map. Due to [he size of
the open Mine entrance and the relatively shallow underground extension
of the developed drift in [he Mine, no ventilation shafts or facilities are
anticipated to be required.
(iv) Other. Because all of Applicant's operations aze expected to occur
underground, other than the loading of trucks at the Mine entrance;
Applicant does not anticipate the need for topsoil stockpiles, overburden
stockpiles, product stockpiles, waste rock fills, stream channels, etc.
Further, because washing and screening the lepidolite ore will occur
offsite, Applicant anticipates that no buildings, processing facilities,
ponds, impoundments, dewatering pumps, diversions, or tailing or waste
disposal areas will be required. To the extent that any of these features are
required, Applicant believes that they can be accommodated within [he
proposed permit boundary, subject to first obtaining appropriate regulatory
approvals.
(d) Minera/ Exlrnction. Mineral extraction will occur within the existing
underground drifr along the strike of the pegmatite dike hosting the Mine. The strike is roughly
parallel to existing surface topographic contours, and is shown in the Mining Plan Map.
(e) Valuab/e Su-uctures. Paragraph (b) of Exhibit B -Site Description describes all
of the surface structures known by Applicant to exist on and within two hundred (200) feet of the
affected lands. Except for the safety and reclamation values of the three grates covering mine
entrances, and the historic value of the core shack and ore chute, none of the structures is
believed by Applicant to be significant or have any additional value. The only structure
Applicant will impact in its operations is the grate covering the Brown Derby Mine entrance.
Applicant intends [o leave the grate in place during its operations, but will expand the size of [he
locked door providing access through the grate into the Mine.
(f) Ekisting Drsturbunce.
(i) Generally. The Mine was operated during World War II under the
authority of the War Production Board. During this time, mining
operations were conducted in an underground drift heading east from the
mine entrance into [he mountainside. The Mine also operated during the
early 1950's, during which time the operator removed overburden from a
portion of the underground drill, thereby turning this portion of the Mine
into an open pit, Subsequently, in 1990, the Office of Inactive Mines
installed the grate covering the Mine entrance. Applicant does not intend
to remove further overburden above the drift.
(ii) Waste Dumps. Several waste dumps were left by previous operators
outside the permit boundary. They are briefly described here:
Exhibit E - 2
