'• 2. Staff gages should be installed on Pond 010 and Pond 012, and elevation-area-
capacity relationships should be developed. Pond elevation, water surface area, and
' total storage should be recorded weekly.
3. From June 8 to July 18 up to 12.3 acre-feet of water stored or used directly at Pond
012 may be assigned to the historical consumptive use associated with the water right
for the Bates Ditch limited to a maximum rate of 1.0 cfs. Up to 33.2 acre-feet
annually of water stored or used directly at Pond 012 may be assigned to the historical
' consumptive use associated with the storage right for Sage Creek Reservoir.
4. Up to 45.5 acre-feet annually of water stored in Pond 010 may be assigned to the
' historical consumptive use under the storage right for Sage Creek Reservoir. When
water is not passing the Sage Creek Ditch, water may be stored at Pond 010 under
their other storage rights. If there is an administrative call from the Yampa River, the
' depletions will be replaced by releases from Stagecoach Reservoir or Wadge Pit
Reservoir.
' CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
' 1. SCC will begin operation of the Yoast Mine in 1996 and coal will be extracted for
about 15 years. The domestic water demands will be about 1.0 acre-foot per year.
Industrial water demands, primarily for dust suppression, will be about 40.0 acre-feet
per year.
2. The Yoast Mine Shop Well will be completed in the Trout Creek Sandstone. It will
' provide the domestic water supplies and will supplement the surface water supplies
used for industrial purposes. Pond 010 and Pond 012 will collect surface runoff and
the discharge from the mine pits and will regulate such water for industrial uses.
' 3. The consumptive use of the water used for domestic purposes will be about 10
percent of the water demand or 0.103 acre-foot annually. The water used for
industrial purposes, 40 acre-feet annually, will be completely consumed. Evaporation
' from Ponds 010 and 012 is estimated to be about 11.06 acre-feet annually if the
ponds are maintained at capacity. The total consumptive use for this project,
therefore, will be about 51.163 acre-feet annually.
4. Pumpage from the Yoast Mine Shop Well will range from 1 to 41 acre-feet annually
depending on the availability of streamflow at Pond 010 and Pond 012. streamflow
' depletion to Fish Creek, Trout Creek, and Middle Creek caused by the Yoast Mine Shop
Well will total about 0.466 percent of the annual pumpage. The depletion would range
from about 0.005 to 0.191 acre-feet annually, depending on the annual pumpage.
' This depletion is insignificant.
5. Pumpage from the Yoast Mine Shop Well will reduce the streamflow in Sage Creek by
' about 8.65 percent of the annual pumpage in the 15th year of mining. From May
through September, the total streamflow reduction would range from 0.036 to 1.49
acre-feet depending on the volume pumped. The well pumpage will reduce the flow
in Grassy Creek by about 10.27 percent of the annual pumpage in year 15. From May
through September, the depletions to Grassy Creek would range from 0.043 to 1.76
' 10
