• Color & Texture: Land contrasts of color will be moderate >n the
short term. The buff color of the exposed soils will show through
the early revegetation corer but this will not attract undue
attention when seen in context with the much larger expanses of
buff colored unvegetated cut and fill slopes associated with
Stevens Gulch Road. Due to the uniform height and light green
color of the initial revegetation, the color and textural
contrasts in vegetation will be moderate. These plant materials
are chazacteristic of the site but not in large uniform masses.
Land form contrast of texture will be very weak.
Intrusion:: Non-vegetated disturbance associated with the existing
"Blouch Road" presently represents moderate to strong contrasts with
the characteristic landscape. The new raid, with application of the
proposed mitigation measures, will result in no greater and probably
less contrast than the existing disturbance.
VRM Class: The foreground visibility of the road places it in a VRM
Class III. The moderate and weak contrast ratings fall within the
criteria of the Management Objective for VRM Class III.
Segment II
Visibility: The location of this segment of proposed raid on a
steeply sloping hillside fifty to eighty feet above the proposed
• portal site exposes the road to greater visibility than the portal
site as described earlier. The non-Vegetated disturbance associated
with the existing Blouch Road is identifiable fran the west ends of
Stucker Mesa and Stewart Mesa. In these limited viewing zones,
slightly greater attention is drawn to the proposed intrusion by the
convergence of land forms which tend to direct the eye to the area of
the existing and proposed disturbance.
Contrast Rating:
Line & Form: Contrast in line and form of land and Vegetation
aze anticipated to be moderate. The full bench wt design will
allow trees on the outside edge of the road to remain undisturbed
thereby providing rnanerous interruptions to the engineered line of
the road platform.
Color & Texture: Color contrasts in both land foam and
vegetational features will be moderate. The buff to brown soil
and light green revegetation will contrast with the im:recliate
surrounding darker green vegetation. Although when seen in the
larger context the adjacent mountain slopes contain large azeas of
exposed lighter colored soils which blend with the proposed
disturbance. Textural contrasts will be weak because of the
distance from the viewer.
• 6
