\ ~ •
Mr. Jim Points
July 7, 1982
Page -2-
Exhibit C (cont'd)
3. Show the buildin€;s listed in the National Register which cannot be
removed.
Exhibit D - Mining Plan
1. What estimated ptoportion of waste rock will be brought out of the
adit and deposited verses that permanently left underground?
2. Are any other chemicals used in the milling process, if so specify
what these are.
3. Specify the approximate thickness of topsoil to be stripped from areas
of future development and show where it will be stockpiled on your
Exhibit C map above.
4. We would like for you to have an independent engineering firm review
your plans £or the tailings dam for design and integrity to ensure
the adequacy of this proposed expansion. [de would also like to have
a copy of the plans as submitted.
5. With what material will the enlargement of the pond be constructed?
If the tailings themselves will be used, in conjunction with lt4 above,
please give a fractional analysis.
6. What measures wi1.L be taken to control on-site runoff and erosion?
Exhibit E - Reclamatio~i Plan
Your reclamation elan does not adequately address what measures will be
taken to reclaim t:he various disturbance associated with the proposed
operations.
The Soil Conservation Service's recommendations given in Exhibit I and
J do, however, address grading, revegetation of dumps. The distinction
between waste rocl: pile and mill tailings is unclear though. Unless
adequate topsoil i.s available, revegetating the mine's waste rock piles
is probably not practical and reclamation best accomplished by grading
these piles to 2:7. slopes or less and by controlling runoff to be
diverted away from these piles to reduce additional water contamination.
Your plan should thus address final grading of new waste rock areas, and
the tailings pond; revegetation and amendments (if the Soil Conservation
Service's recommendations will be followed, please specify). Closure
of the adit; structures to be removed; any permanent drainage diversions;
and any other measures that would be necessary to clean-up the site.
