FYeguency and Sample Type - Acute WET TestincT (Continued)
~e permittee shall conduct each acute WET test in general aarordance
with methods described in the Division guidance document entitled
Guidelines for Con3uctinq Whole Effluent Toxicity Tests. The
permittee shall conduct an acute 48-hour WET test using Ceriodaphnia
sp., and an acute 96-has WEP test using fathead minnows. Acute tests
will be replacement static tests of a simgle effluent grab sample.
6. Accelerated Testing
If an individual toxicity test shows toxicity at concentrations less
than or equal to the Tnctraam Waste Concentration (IWC) of: (a) 11.4%
at di5~'h~me point 001 or (b) 4.6 % at dicrhame point 009, or if 50%
species mortality in any dilution is detected in any acute WET test
conducted in aocort9ance with this permit, the permittee shall notify
the Division verbally within 24 hours and in writing within 5 days of
becoming aware of the toxicity. Within 7 days of becoming aware of
the toxicity, the pennittee shall then begin accelerated testing of
the discharge with whichever species has proven (throuc~r the first
instance of toxicity) to be the most sensitive. The permittee will
continue such testing with one species, once every week until directed
by the Division to do otherwise, but in no case for more than five
r representative tests.
~~'
7. Preliminary Toxicity Investigation
If directed by the Division, the permittee shall perform a preliminary
toxicity investigation. Within 30 days of conq~leting the
prel~m;n~*y toxicity investigation, the permittee shall submit for the
Division's approval a control program to control effluent toxicity,
and shall proceed to implement such plan within 7 days following
approval by the Division.
if no probable explanation for toxicity is identified in the 15-day
prel~m~T+~*y toxicity investigation, a Phase I Toxicity Reduction
Evaluation (TRE) is required. 'Ihe permittee shall notify the
Division, as part of its final report, of its intent to proceed with
the Phase I TRE.
