Provide enough <br />information that it will be useful in determining your reclamation bond requirement for <br />various stages or phases of your mining operation. <br />6. Provide your plan to stabilize the quarry highwalls. <br />7. Your section 1.2 of Exhibit E states that "occasionally, occurrences of overburden will be <br />removed from some of the gravel bar areas to be mined." Please provide more discussion of <br />this statement. Is the material to be removed as product or as salvage material for <br />reclamation? If it is to be used for reclamation, provide more details regarding storage and <br />placement in reclamation backfill. <br />8. Your section 1.3 soil salvage states that at least f 0 feet will be stripped ahead of any area to <br />be mined. It is assumed that this is in reference to the gravel mining operation. What is the <br />maximum buffer azea to be stripped ahead of mining granite and limestone? <br />9. Section 1.3 of your reclamation plan states that soil screened from the gravel bar aggregate <br />will be saved for future use as topsoil in reclamation. It is assumed that you aze referring to <br />fines which will be primazily sand and small size gravel. This fraction of the pit tvn material <br />will most likely be very low in nutrient value and water holding capacity. Unless properly <br />amended this material will probably not be a good plant growth medium and may erode due <br />to lack of vegetative cover. Please explain how you intend to overcome these problems. <br />l0. Your section 1.7 states that "For future reclamation by the operator, landowner or another <br />party an appropriate amount of topsoil will be left in a noticeable, shaped, and seeded <br />stockpile within 50 feet of the mineral stockpiles remaining after final reclamation." Please <br />explain this statement. There should be no mineral stockpiles or topsoil stockpiles left after <br />final reclamation. <br />1 1. Section 2.3 of your post mining reclamation activities states that "Overburden will be placed <br />to create apost-mining topography that is self-draining and which blends into adjacent <br />undisturbed lands. It is assumed that you are referring to the gravel pit areas. Please provide <br />an estimate of the amount of overburden to be backfilled into the mined out gravel pits. The <br />Division recommends that if you have excess overburden materials (not needed to create <br />appropriate grades), that you consider using that material with other materials and <br />amendments to reclaim quarry benches. <br />12. Your proposed permanent seed mix does not include a legume; however, your section 2.6 <br />states that legume seed will be inoculated with the correct rhizobium prior to shipping. <br />Please discuss this discrepancy. It would be an improvement to your seed mix if you were to <br />add an appropriate legume. You might consider contacting the local Natural Resource <br />Conservation Service office for a recommendation. <br />13.
