• Several areas revegetated during interim reclamation work will be redisturbed
during final grading and reclamation. This "interim" reclamation work was
designed to add to the stability and aesthetics of the site during mining,
as well as to provide opportunity to test and improve revegetation techniques
prior to the commencement of final reclamation at the end of operations.
The purpose of final grading operations will be to provide acceptable slope
configurations and to provide the best possible conditions for successful
revegetation. For the mine area (excluding the refuse disposal area for
this part of the discussion), this is especially important, since revegetation
work will be conducted without benefit of a final topsoil cover.
Drawings D-4-15, D-4-16 and D-4-20 were revised in August 1987 to be more
• consistent with the land owner's desires and with available material on site.
To provide an acceptable slope configuration, slopes will be reduced to 2.5h:1v
or less. To promote revegetation success, benches will left at the No. 3
Mine, the No. 1 Mine shop and yard area, and the wash plant area. These
benches will maximize the retention of precipitation. Compacted areas will
be scarified to provide a sufficient zone for water and root penetration.
The final contours of the mine site were designed to eliminate the need to
import soil and to minimize the haul distance of existing material. The
only area where the approximate original contours was the primary consideration
for the final reclamation design was the new fan site for the No. 1 Mine.
This area had not been disturbed by previous mining operations.
