• 4.4.2.3 Final Reclamation
consistent with the land owner's desires and with available material on site. To provide
an acceptable slope configuration, slopes were reduced to 2.5h:1v or less. To promote
revegetation success, benches were left at the No. 3 Mine, the No. 1 Mine shop and
yard area, and the wash plant area. These benches maximize the retention of
precipitation. Compacted areas were scarified to provide a sufficient zone for water
and root penetration.
The final contours of the mine site were designed to eliminate the need to import soil
and to minimize the haul distance of existing material. The only area where the
approximate original contours was the primary consideration for the final reclamation
design was the new fan site for the No. 1 Mine. This area had not been disturbed by
previous mining operations. The initial phase of final reclamation at the mine site (not
including the refuse pile) will involve cutting and filling approximately 70,000 cy of
material. An as built contour map will be submitted to the Division at the time of a bond
reduction request (1"=50', 10' C.I.).
• The road (light use road/trail) to the fan shaft, which traverses Stoney Ridge, the bridge
across North Thompson Creek, and fan shaft site were permanently retained as per
landowner requests (see pages 4-98d and 4-98i). The Stoney Ridge light use roadltrail,
which has numerous switchbacks, branches off of County Road 108 between the
number 1 and number 3 Mines..The road/trail climbs the north face of Stoney Ridge
and extends about one-halfway down the south facing slope. This road is considered
by the landowner to benefit the property and benefit wildlife. This road supports the
rangeland postmining land use.
The sediment and detention ponds, P-1 through P-9 and the refuse pond, at the mine
site will remain in place during the initial phase of final reclamation. Drainage from the
regraded areas will be diverted into the three sediment ponds to the maximum extent
possible. The collection ditches remaining or being extended for the initial phase of
reclamation are shown on Drawings D-4-15 and D-14-16. Small area exemptions are
being requested for the No. I Mine portal area and the new fan site for the No. 1 Mine.
(These areas are shaded on Drawings D-4-15 and D-4-16). Straw dikes will be
installed along the base of these regraded areas, until seeding and mulching can be
done. The straw mulch in these small area exemptions will be stabilized by crimping or
netting.

a-aa sio2
