ENVIRONMENT. INC. PADE 6
61L0AM 6T0NE - BEDROCK MINE
M.L.R.9. PERMIT i~ M-97-086
JANUARY 7, 1 998
(i)(iv) The proposed tree planting plan is a little unusual in
that we will spread 2 lbs of Juniper and 2 lbs of Pinon
Pine seeds on 238 of the area to be revegetated. This
will place approximately 1.79 seeds per sq-ft on the
area when normally one would plant 1 per 10 sq-ft. We
will attempt to do this in the same areas where trees
were removed. This seeding will be monitored for two
years or until we have a idea of when it will be a
success. Depending on the success we may have to
inter-plant seeding trees to supplement the seeding.
The idea is to establish 400 trees per acre on 238 of
the mined area so as to reestablish similar stands of
trees. Some natural invasion is expected on the rest
of the site so no trees will be planted on the remain-
ing 748 of the site. The bond includes a tree planting
cost using 670 bear root seedling trees per acre. The
anticipated survival rate is 608 so the planting will
only have to be done once. Twenty-three percent of 15
ac is 3.45 ac. so we would bond to plant 2,600 trees on
the mined area and save the Division time if the site
has to be reclaimed.
6.4.6 Exhibit F -Reclamation Plan Maa
(b) This was covered in the written text, but on the new map the
green colored area is where the site will be returned to
rangeland. Because we do not know exactly where the trees
will survive I have not shown them on the map. I have added
a statement to the map saying the trees will be planted.
6.4.7 Exhibit G -Water Information
(1) I concur with your assessment that there are isolated pools
of water in the tributary canyon and regular water flows
occur. I believe this water comes from snow melt and hap-
pens in the spring or when there is a localized storm.
whether each pool is spring fed is a speculation that cannot
be confirmed without an extensive hydrologic study. I do
not feel doing a study for each pool is necessary since we
do not plan to disrupt or change the character of the chan-
nel in the canyons or disturb the pools.
(2)
(a) Map Exhibit C shows all the listed items that apply to
this site. There are no stock watering ponds, reser-
voirs or ditches on the site or within 200 feet of the
permit boundary. The USGS map for the area makes no
note of springs on the site.
(b) When the site was drilled in the 1950's the test hole
data did not show any water in the holes. Most of the
holes were 60 to 100 feet deep, so we can only assume
