Mr. Gilbert F. Rindahl - 3 - June 17, 1985
5. Will pumping' only occur from the specified locations (Phase I, Phase III)
or will other pump locations exist? Please describe the other locations and
draingage systems if applicable.
6. Page D-1 states that mining will be in 5 acre parcels, yet the itemized
disturbance description which follows indicates maximum excavation of 2
acres. Please clarify.
7. Please indicate how the operator will insure that dewatering activities do
not damage or kill the adjacent mature cottonwoods. Many operators route a
portion of the dewatering discharge to the cottonwoods via 6 inch irrigation
mainline pipe. Please indicate your plans to maintain the trees.
8. The Division recommends the installation of groundwater monitering wells
which should be checked periodically to insure that dewatering activities do
not impact local residential water wells. The Craig well is of particular
concern.
9. Please specify whether gravel will be washed at the proposed plant site.
Explain the wash water discharge system including settling pond if
applicable.
I
10. This exhibit should be amended to reflect the existing area.
Exhibit E - Reclamation Plan
1 . Topsoil redistribution to a minimum depth of 12 inches will be recommended
as part of the amendment approval .
2 Please verify that haul roads and plant areas will be ripped and disced or
otherwise prepared for subsquent topsoiling, soil amendment and seeding.
Topsoil should be salvaged and stored prior to development of the plant site
unless sufficient topsoil remains available from the pit excavation areas.
i
3. We agree that weeds must be properly controlled. It seems that weed cover
of 30% is excessive and weeds should not be allowed to invade to such a high
percent composition.
4. Please provide the acreage of each proposed lake.
5. The reclamation plan indicates (page E-1 ) that no agriculture or
horticulture will be involed. The lakes will become wildlife habitat and
mining and reclamation should occur such that shoreline irregularities and
possibly islands are left. Please submit a revised reclamation plan map which
clearly shows this to be the case.
6. Please amend this exhibit to reflect the status of the existing permit
area.
