I was informed <br />of your offices' concern for the potentiality of impacts to eagles, as <br />related to mining activities proposed by Northern Coal on Coal Leases <br />C-076713 and D-044240. <br />This concern emeroed from the March 7, 1979, letter of plan review by <br />the bureau of land Management (BLM). BLM had stated: "The endangered <br />bald eagle has been observed feeding and soaring in Curtis Creek near <br />the mining site. This should be documented." <br />Pursuant to Lhis information, the following actions were initiated: <br />April 5, 1979 - I spoke with Mr. Mike Getman - Wildlife Biologist, <br />BLH, Meeker, Colorado. <br />April 6, 1979 - Mr. Allen Whitaker, (Colorado Division of Wildlife) <br />and myself met with Mr. Terry Schultz of Northern Coal, Mr. Val Grant <br />and Mr. Peter Kung of Bio-Resources, Inc., who will be performing <br />environmental studies for Northern Loal. <br />April 10, 1979 - Messrs. Whitaker, Grant, Kung and myself met at the <br />mine to view the location, topography and habitats in the mine site <br />vicinity: <br /> <br /> <br />Hr. Getman stated that the eagle activity referred to in the March 7 letter <br />is presently known to be only soaring activities by bald eagles presently <br />0-6 <br />
