4 - 45 <br />• The Uffens soil is a member of the fine•loamy, mixed, mesic family of Typic Natrargids. <br />Areas of Uffens soils less than 1.5 acres each are designated on the map by a saline/sodic spot <br />symbol, ~. <br />Typically, the surface layer of the Havre soil is a light brownish gray or light gray loam about <br />6 inches thick. The substratum to a depth of 60 inches or more is a saline brown, grayish <br />brown, or light gray stratified loam, silty clay loam, or sandy loam. <br />Permeability of the Havre soil is moderate. Available water capacity is moderate to <br />moderately high. Effective rooting depth is 60 inches. Runoff is slow and the erosion hazard for <br />water is moderate. Wind erosion hazard is slight. <br />The unit is mainly used for rangeland and wildlife habitat. It is also used for pasture. <br />The present plant community is mainly cheat grass and western wheat grass with big sage <br />and greasewood. <br />The potential productivity is 2,500 and 1,200 pounds of air-dry vegetation in favorable and <br />unfavorable years, respectively. <br />• This map unit is in the capability unit l l lw irrigated on 0 to 2 percent slopes and 1Vw <br />irrigated on 2 percent and steeper slopes, foothills Swale range site.3 <br />MAP UNIT: NIBE - NIHILL LOAM, 5 TO 35 PERCENT SLOPES <br />This map unit is on gently sloping to moderately steep fans, draws, terraces and gullies. <br />The slope is 5 to 30 percent. The native vegetation is mainly agreasewood - shrubland <br />community or a juniper -woodland community. <br />Included in this map unit is about 20 percent Ton•iorthents ranging from shallow to <br />moderately deep in loamy-skeletal and sandy-skeletal families. Included areas make up about <br />20 percent of the total acreage. <br />Typically, the surface layer of the Nihill soil is a pale brown to grayish brown loam or gravelly <br />loam about 8 inches thick. The substratum to a depth of 60 inches or more is light brownish <br />gray, pale brown, or light brownish gray gravelly to very gravelly loam, sandy loam, or clay loam. <br />Permeability of the Nihill soil is moderately rapid. Available water capacity is moderately <br />low. Effective rooting depth is 60 inches. Runoff is rapid and the erosion hazard for water is <br />• moderate.
