~'
EEVEGETATION PLAN
Aa stated before, elopes should be kept as gentle as possible to aid
in the establishment of vegetation.
Additional topsoil may or may not be necessary depending upon the
material available at the site. If topsoil is stockpiled for an ex-
tended period of ties, temporary vegetation should be established to
prevent erosion and maintain soil microbial populations.
fertilizer requirements -
The rate of fertilizer application should be no less than SO
pounds of nitrogen (N) and 50 pounds of phosphate (PZOS5) per
acre. Animal manures or similar organic material may be used to
supply all or part of the specified nutrients as well ae doubling
ae a mulch.
Time of application should be immediately prior to seeding, at
the time of seeding, or is®ediately following seeding, as applicable
to the kind of fertilizer and type of equipment used,
Seedbed preparation -
The seedbed should be well settled and firm, but friable enough
that seed can be placed at the seeding depths specified. The
seedbed should be reasonably free of weeds. Competitive stands
of weeds that are present before seeding moat be controlled by
shallow tillflge or by application of herbicides labeled for this
purpose.
Soils that have been over-compacted by traffic or equipment,
especially when wet, should be tilled to break up rooting restric-
tive layers, and then harrowed, rolled or packed to prepare the
required firm seedbed.
Method and depth of seeding -
Seed should be planted with a drill on all slopes of 39 percent
(3:1) or flatter. The drill meet have the capability of handling
the kind and rate of seed being planted. Seed planted with a
drill should be covered with soil to a depth of 1/4 to 3/4 inch.
Seed may be broadcast by hand or mechanical spreader on areas too
steep or not accessible for seed-drill operations, Seed planted
by the broadcast method should be incorporated into the surface
soil, not to exceed a depth of 3/4 Inch, by raking, harrowing
or other proven method,
