2) Minimize the potential for transportation and importation of noxious
or pest weed species; and
3) Educate field personnel in order to encourage compliance with weed
management program goals and assist with identification and control efforts.
1.1 Noxious and Pest Weed Monitoring
Noxious and pest weed management is an item of significant concern for
developments that disturb the land's surface. To prevent or minimize the infestation
and spread of noxious and pest weeds, GCC will conduct periodic inspections on
disturbed and reclaimed areas to evaluate their presence or absence, degree of
invasion and monitor the response of previously treated infestations. Noxious and
pest weed infestations will be identified and delineated by qualified specialists
during the active growing season of each year. Specific treatment and monitoring
methodologies and timetables will be developed based on species of concern,
location and extent of the infestation(s), and other pertinent Factors.
Noxious and pest weed inventories will characterize the level of infestation prior to
disturbance, during operational life of the project and in permanently reclaimed
areas. This inventory will help the weed control contractor and/or mine personnel
find the location, type and areal extent of any infestations and track success of
control efforts. A list of noxious and pest weed species known to occur in Pueblo
County and potentially occur within the project area is contained in Table 1.
1.2 Weed Dispersal
Noxious and pest weeds are spread through dispersal of seed and/or transport of
plant propagules (i.e. rhizomes, bulbs, roots and etc.). The most effective way to
control noxious and pest weeds is to prevent their introduction into disturbed and
GCC Red Rocks Mine 3 03/03/03
