• Rill and Gully Plan
r
<3
Sun Coal Company will monitor and repair rills and gullies where:
1. rills and gullies deeper than nine inches are located on the backfilled mine reclaimed
land; or where
2. rills and gullies of lesser depth, where the rills and gullies:
prohibit successful revegetation,
aze disruptive to the approved post-mining land use, or
may result in excessive erosion or sedimentation.
Sun Coal Company will conduct one annual rill and gully inspection, after snow melt
and prior to August 31 of each calendaz year and will immediately initiate appropriate
repairs (within 30 days). If immediate repairs cannot be initiated because of wet field
conditions, temporary erosion control methods, e. g., straw bales, temporary riprap,
diversion ditches, or other measures will be used.
If deep rills and gullies are located in the revegetated area, suitable topsoil and subsoil
material from sediment control structures will be excavated, distributed on the
disturbed area, compacted, raked, mulched, and seeded. All areas disturbed during
this reclamation repair phase will be reclaimed using the criteria outlined in Section
2.05.4. During this process, appropriate equipment will be selected to ensure
disturbance to the existing vegetation will be kept to the smallest practicable azea. If
the rills aze shallow, the disturbed area will be repaired by raking material adjacent to
the disturbed area and compacting, mulching, and seeding the disturbed area. If rills
and gullies are formed adjacent to the access road, the disturbed area will be backfilled
an stabilized, e.g., riprap, matting, netting.

Minor Revision -378- Rev. 6/94
