2.05.2 Operation Plan - Estimated Area for Life of Operation
This permit application covers planned mining operations at the
Grassy Creek Coal ~4ine. There are deep reserves controlled by The
Rockcastle Company and additional surface and deep reserves on con-
tiguous properties not under lease. Because of these reserves, there
are opportunities for additional mining in the area beyond the five
year permit term.
2.05.3 Operation Plan - Per;nit Area
The operation plan for The Rockcastle Company coincides with the
requested five year permit term. The operation plan for this permit
term covers Piinyas shown on the Flining Plan Map. The permit term
requested is February, 1985 to February, 1990. A mining schedule
for the active mining areas is shown in Table 1. Pits 1, 2, 3, 5 and
6 have already been mined, recontoured and reseeded.
The schedule in Table 1 is loosely defined because coal production
rates will vary with coal market conditions. Production over the past
two years has averaged 100,000 tons/year o-+ith a maximwn production of
approximately 30,000 tons/month. It is anticipated that this production
rate will continue or increase during the five year permit term.
Production from Pit 4 will be by strip mining.
Signs and markers required by law or regulations will be posted
and maintained. The current requirements are as follows:
(a) Specifications. Signs made of a durable material and con-
forming to local ordinances and codes will be maintained at
proper locations during all phases of the mining operation.
These signs will be posted so that they can be seen and
easily read.
(b) Mine and permit identification signs. A sign showing the
name, business address and telephone number of the permittee
and identification numbers of its mining and reclamation per-
mits and other authorizations to operate is displayed at the
point of access to the permit area from County Road H27.
This sign will not be removed until after release of all bonds.
(c) Perimeter markers. The perimeter of the permit area will be
marked by regularly spaced metal markers or other markers,
such as lath or plastic pipe, to indicate the permit area.
2-85 III-1
