~'
page 3
~ llescription of Applicant's Proposal
The Cameo seam has been accessed from a bench excavated at the coal
outcrop. The exploration activity is to be conducted as an underground
operation. A 5-entry system has already been driven due east approxi-
mately 1,4UU feet. From the coal outcrop area to 1,400 feet due east
a fault was encountered.
Three sets of Paul[ probe entries may be driven to further identify the
orientation of the fault lines to the east and west of the existing
entries. The development and direction of the main entries will depend
upon the information acquired by the probe entries. F'or the purpose of
the mining plan Sheridan Enterprises, Inc. plans on turning the main
entries to the northeast and developing parallel to the projected fault
line. These 5-entries will follow this bearing until the eastern lease
edge barrier is reached. From this point the mains will be turned
north and developed to the eastern lease edge. where the mains change
direction from northeast to a northerly direction, a 3-entry (submains)
panel will be driven west [o the projected coal seam outcrop.
As already mentioned, the mains will consist of five entries; the two
outside entries will be used for return airways and the two adjacent
entries will be used fir intake air. 'lhe belt entry will be isolated
trom the intake and return airways by permanent stoppings.
Once exploration work is completed and the faults have definite
characteristics then panels will be developed off the mains and
submains. These panels consist of one intake airway, one return airway
and one belt entry; and will be to the northwest.
The entries are planned to be on 75 foot centers with crosscut spacing
of lU0 feet. These dimensions, obviously, are dependent upon the
geologic conditions of the Cameo seam. The entry widths are planned
to be a minimum of 16 foot wide and a maximum of 20 feet. Barrier
pillars of 20U feet will be left to protect the main entries.
Panel entries are planned to be on 45U foot centers. At [he end of [he
panels a bleeder entries will be driven 30U feet back to [he preceding
panel. Rooms are to be driven off on panels and once three rooms have
been driven; with two sets of pillars developed; [hen tl~e first row of
pillars will be recovered.
The McClane Canyon Mine is totally dependent upon the marketability of
the coal. Mining for [he first five years has been designed to
determine the orientation and extent of the faults. Total production
for the term of this permit area duration is three years) is 369,500
tons. Annual production will be approximately 123,000 tons/year. If
annual production is expanded in [he second year to 246,000 tons then
the term of the permit is reduced to two years. 'Ihe Cameo seam varies
in thickness from 17 to 22 feet. The actual mining height of•the Cameo
seam at the McClane Canyon mine will range from B to 13 feet. panel
mining method will yield an overall recovery rate of 4yL.
