PENNSYLVANIA WEST COAL CORPORATION
777 Main Avenue, Ste. #211
Durango, CO 81301
November 2, 1992
Division of Minerals and Geology
DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
RE: COMPLETENESS. COAL GULCH APPLICATION C-92-079
Dear Ms. Begej:
- ~ With reference to your letter to Greg Lewicki dated October 20, 1992, and to our
telephone conversation on October 29, 1992, I wish to confirm our understanding and
position upon receiving a completeness from your department for the acceptance of
our application for a mining permit submitted July 14th, 1992.
1. Water quality samples have been taken and submitted for analysis with
CDS Labs. An analysis list from CDS Labs is enclosed for your
comments.
a. The Messier WeII (Cliff House SS)
b. The Mangrum WeII (Coal Gulch Alluvium)
c. The Coal Gulch Mine Well (Menefee Formation)
2. Monitor Well AM5 in the Northwest Comer of Section 16 Township 35N
Rg 10W NMPM is not controlled by Pennsylvania West, either by surface
rights or mineral rights. This well was accessed on October 27, 1992 and
it was found that the submersible pump and 1' diameter pipe had been
removed by unknown parties. We have made arrangements with
Maverick Pump Co., owned by John Frank, to reinstall a new pump and
pipe to enable water samples to be taken. We wish to note that the AM5
location is not accessible by vehicles during the winter months, and due
to the fact that a generator is required to power the 326 foot deep pump,
water samples can only be taken now and in the Spring. Would you
confirm that this is acceptable to your Department.
