The applicant should submit the potentiometric
surface of any known aquifers in the area, along
~ with known uses of water in the aquifer and water
able (including flow rates and water rights). If
J any groundwater rights are adjudicated at a later
time in the three mile radius of the permit area,
the applicant should indicate this in an annual
report.
If the McClane Canyon Mine will affect the ground-
water quantity and/or quality, identify alternative
sources of water supply that could be developed to
replace the existing sources. This information
Q should include the source and its location, quan-
tity, quality, distribution scheme and compatibil-
ity with postmining land use, maintenance, and
Colorado Water Law.
Provide additional information on the known and
!~ potential quality of water in the coal and adja- y/~
~ [ cent stratigraphic zones as related to the pot-
tential for environmental contamination by any
\ mine-water discharge in compliance with 783.15.
Provide the depth of each annlicable well.
~~
-Provide information on thickness of aquifers and
;"~ water levels in alluvium ~nd relate to possibil-
~ ities of using deeper monitoring wells to minimize
~" "dry holes" when.water tab"le declines, in complia e
'th 783.15.
n The mine plan discusses the dry conditions that
~J-l will be experienced during proposed mining oper-
ations, but does not adequately cover the possi-
~. bilities of encountering saturated conditions if
~ mining is extended throughout the "permit area"
V shown on Figure 2.1-1. Will the mining extend
`~ into saturated groundwater zones? Describe in
more detail the extent of proposed mining (e.g.,
'n '' Fig. 2.1-1) with adequate wording, symbols, or
~ legend. Should mining extend into saturated zones,
inventory of wells in the adjacent areas would be
-`' necessary and impacts of mining on these wells
would need to be evaluated. Provide information
on known and potential groundwater recharge, and
~ discharge occurrences in the deeper down-dip coal
zones within the permit area. Include information
of possibilities of recharge from upper reaches of
E. Salt Creek (north of the permit area), from
water occurrences at drill holes 7-35-1 and 7-3-4
(north of the permit area), and along the strata
or through faults and fractures into the deeper
coal zones.
4
