-s-
c. Monitoring of Effluent
d. Sediment Monitoring
- Sediment/sludge may need testing depending on type of coagulant
and method of disposal. These sediments may be toxic due to
the concentration of coagulant, or unsuitable due to colloids.
e. Operational Considerations
- rf discharge will continue after close of mine, the company
must commit to treating as long as requited, Under Section
(9.05,2(2)), the facilities must be maintained until either the
discharge continuously meets effluent limitations without treat-
ment, or until the discharge has permanently ceased.
B. Impoundments
1. From Pfap DOB-6-GTL-I, it appears that road drainage is proposed to
be routed to a 'catchment basin' or impoundment along the county road.
Zf water is indeed being impounded, Rule (4.05.9) must be addressed.
In addition, the Division must assess whether this basin will affect
the public road. The following items should be addressed:
a. Cross-sections of the county road and basin must be provided.
b. Basin volume estimates must be submitted.
c. Sediment storage volumes and a discussion of sediment removal
methods and levels must be provided.
d. What measures will be taken to prevent erosion and fill satur-
ation of the road?
e
e. Will this structure affect the public road stability?
f. Has approval from the county been obtained?
g. What design event will the structure handle?
h. What will happen if this design event is exceeded?
i. How and when will this structure be removed?
~ 2. Please note: The impoundments within the Ifastings lease need not
be addressed at this time. Even though these areas are within the
Dorchester permit boundary, reclamation responsibilities have not yet
been transferred.
3. Ponds N2 and N3, as shown on the Water Routing diagrams in the
response, appear to be temporary impoundments. Therefore, Rule
(4. 05.9(I)(eJ) must be addressed for each pond.
