D. A. Berry - 4 - Auquet 29, 1996
in the permit. it was not intended to be a permanent cover
page so it will not be revised.
13. Paragraph 1 and paragraph 2:
"Concerning the potential negative i.mpacta to streams",
Hubbard and Terror Creeks are 300 to 1000 feet below and
approximately 1/2 mile or more away from the projected mine
workings. The hydrologic study and BRL fail to see any
possible hydrologic connection between the mine workings and
these two Creeks, were drawdown due to mine inflow may
occur. Furthermore, recharge to the streams from the D-2
Seam perched water bearing zones (of poor quality, limited
extent, and no beneficial use), and from mine water
discharge, through the low permeable coal and surrounding
lenticular strata is highly unlikely. Page 2.04-25 states
that both the upper and lower perched water bearing zones
"are characterized as locally discontinuous saturated strata
occurring as perched horizons". The groundwater
investigation preformed yielded no indication that the
perched water bearing zones were hydrologically connected to
either Hubbard Creek, Terror Creek, or the North Fork of the
Gunnison River. In fact, the investigation found a
sufficient number of dry exploration holes to show that
there is no connection between the saturated zones and the
streams.
Paragraph 3:
A section was added to section 2.05.6, page 2.05-70 to
address the indicated fault, shown on Map 9, which could
bisect the mine workings and provide a means of
communication with the Terror Creek drainage.
Paragraph 4: There or no formal plans to mine the B-2 seam
at this time.
Paragraph 5: No response required.
13a.
i.) DtdG - Please provide a plan to remedy the no spring
monitoring data provided for April 1995 and 1996.
BRL - I3nclosed are spring monitoring data for early May
and June 1996. The early May data, collected May 5th,
should suffice for the early season data requested by
the DMG. Data sheets are provided toz each spring for
insertion into Volume III, Exhibit 3.
ii) DMG - 4'he application indicates that pond observations
began .ire September, 1995. Please provide recent: (1995
