D. A. Berry - 3 - August 29, 1996
10. DAtG - BRL added the location of the fault in question to MaF
No. 7, "Geology". The presence of this fault within the
near subcrop, shallower overburden portions of the
underground mine plan may have significant implications fur
the distribution of ground surface subsidence. BRL did not
address the earlier. adequacy comments regarding faulting
implications at the Bowie No. 1 Mine. However, the Bowie
No. 1. Mine's subsidence discussion, subsidence control plan,
and monitoring program will need to be amended to address
the implications of this fault. A thorr~ugh aerial
photographic analysis of the permit and adjacent area might
assist in defining the location of potential faults.
BRL feels 2.04.6 is an inappropriate section for a
discussion regarding faulting implications at the Bowie #1
Mine. It also feels that this section is not the place to
address the subsidence control plan and monitoring program.
BRL covered these topics in the first adequacy response in
section 2.05.6 and in further detail in Exhibit 15.
BRL agrees that normally a thorough aerial photographic
analysis of the permit and adjacent area might assist in
defining the location of existing faults. Dames 6 Moore
performed a fault study for the Bowie No. 1 Mine in 1981.
They had virtually no success using aerial photographic
analysia to identify faults even when subsurface data
indicated fault locations. There is no indication of any
other faulting in the subsurface data collected from the
Bowie No. 2 Mine property other than the indicated fault
shown on Map-07.
11. DMi; - This question requires from ARL. Additional
discussion regarding the acid base potential of the coal to
be mined is needed.
BRL - Page 2.04-18 was revised to expand the discussion of
the acid base potential of the coal to be mined. Sncloaed
are revised pages 2.04-18, 19, 20, 21 and laboratory results
from SOLTESCO to be inserted in Volume IIi, Exhibit 6.
12. DMG - The text on pays 2.04-?.2 references 3.3 drill hole
completion drawings, and that there are only I2 completion
dra+~inys i.n Volume 3, Exhi.hit 3. Fleaae submit the
remaining completion drawing. Also, the application should
add refer.•ences to the eorapl.etion drawiriy fo.r DH-38 and to
the missing completion drawing on the cover page for that
Exhibit.
BRL - The missing completion drawing for DH-13 is enclosed.
The "cover page" for Exhibit 3 was intended to assist the
DMG in placing the revised material in the correct location
