for archaeological values in part by LOPA and reported
in Archaeological Reconnaissance of Proposed Coal Lease
Areas in Moffat, Rio Blanco, and Routt Counties, Colorado,
and in part by four BLM archaeologists. The area was
not 100% surveyed due to heavy vegetative ground cover.
The area will not be 100% surveyed prior to approval of
mining because the heavy vegetative cover prevents view-
ing the ground for cultural resources. One site has been
recorded by LOPA and two isolated finds were located by
BLM archaeologists. Site SRT24 is a lithic scatter and
has been given a significance level of S3 - not likely to
be eligible to the National Register. IF42 is a white chert
projectile point and IF 43 is a bifacially worked chert
fragment. One isolated find, IF44, of a chert flake was
located on application C-26913.
Coal lease application C-22b76 was surveyed by BLM arch-
aeologists in the same manner as indicated above. Two
prehistoric sites and six isolated finds were located.
Site SRT105 is a flake scatter with pieces of burned sand-
stone. It have been given a significance rating of 53 -
not likely to be eligible to the National Register.
Site SRT106 is also a lithic scatter with a chert blade
being located and has also been given a significance rating
of S3. IF36, IF38, and IF41 each consist of a single white
chert flake while IF 37 is two white chert flakes. IF39
is a unifacial mono. IF 40 is a possible agate Basin
point fragment.
75
