site is located on an existing Federal lease and the sur-
face is owned by Energy Fuels. Near this site, also on an
existing Federal lease, the ruins of a log cabin (EP-006)
are found. The cabin is about 10 feet by 15 feet and
about four feet high.
Since these six sites are located on private surface lands,
the BLM has recorded them and submitted site forms and
photographs to the State Historic Preservation Officer
(SHPO), who may nominate these sites to the National
Register of Historic Places as he sees fit.
The recommended Department of Interior Unsuitability Cri-
teria for Surface Coal Mining have been applied to these sites.
Criterion 7 deals with historic sites, districts, etc., and
states that those sites eligible or that may be eligible to
the National Register require a buffer zone to protect
them from surface mining. All of the above sites are on
private lands and not on federal lands; therefore, Cri-
terion 7 will not apply.
Upon consultation with SHPO and the National Register, it
has been determined that the fallowing site in Routt
County has been nominated to, or is determined eligible
for, the National Register: Hahn's Peak Schoolhouse.
This site would not be affected by the proposed action.
2.
