i
LAND USE AND PRIME FARMLANDS
Restoration of disturbed land to premining land uses will be
accomplished by implementation of the overall mine site reclama-
tion plan particularly including provisions for revegetation and
enhancement of the site for wildlife use (page 67, Vol. 1 of the
permit application). Returning the proposed land use of range-
land and wildlife habitat to premining capability is dependent on
the successful implementation of the reclamation plan. As soon
as the vegetation has become established to the point where it
will support grazing, the applicant will follow a management plan
to be submitted to the regulatory authority according to the
stipulation proposed in the Revegetation section of this chapter.
The existing land use will temporarily cease on the permit
area. Following reclamation, land use will be restored to pre-
mining capability.
The USDA Soil Conservation Service has determined that no
prime farmland exists in the permit area. The land has not been
historically used as farmland, is not irrigated, has limited
natural subirrigation, receives less than 14 inches per year of
precipitation, and does not have a dependable or adequate water
supply. Wyoming Fuels has requested a negative determination of
prime farmland. Based on the data presented in Appendix J, and
Appendix I, Vol. III of the permit application, it is recommended
that this request be approved.
-100-
