above the seams to be mined should be included in the application.
The application defined the thickness of the five upper seams;
the Rex Carbon, the Manley, the Vento, the Black Hawk, and
the Dirty Jack O'Lantern, but the attachment ZV or Appendix A
and B which would define their nature and depth were not
supplied. 2.04.6(2)(a)(i)
2. The geology map of the permit area is incomplete. All faulting
and fracturing must be identified on this map.
Also on this map coal outcrop lines should be provided. The
crop lines on maps DOR-E-GEO, DOR-F-GEO and DOR-G-GEO are not
accurate or complete. In addition, any crop lines in the
southwest must be provided. Appropriate strikes and dips should
also appear on the geology map. 2.04.6(2)(a)(ii)
2.04.7 Hydrology Description
Ground water information
r
1. More baseline information is required on the qualify and quantity ,
of water in the Trinidad Sandstone. What wells in the general
area utilize this aquifer as a source of water? What..are the
production rates in these wells? What is the quality of the
water and what use is made of the water? 2.04.7(1)
The units within the Vermejo, the Raton and Poison Canyon
Fofmations which store and are capable of transmitting ground
water must be specifically identified and discussed.
These aquifers are of concern because of the static water level
of 6,100' in the old workings and the fact that water was
encounterd above the coal seams in most of the drill holes.
A contour map of elevations and units in which water was en-
countered and a study of the correlation of these units must
be supplied. 2.04.7(1) In addition, a water monitoring plan
must be supplied. (see section 2.05.6)
2. Figures 5 and 6 list water rights in the vicinity of the permit
area. What uses are made of the water from these sources?
Where does Dorchester obtain potable water sources for their
mining operations? This information is necessary to establish
the hydrologic balance and what water supplies might be impacted
by mining. 2.04.7(1)(a)(iii) All of the sources of water plus
all ground water monitoring stations must be located on the
hydrology map. (see 2.04.7(4)
3. Insufficient documentation of the recharge, storage and discharge
of the aquifers on the property, has been supplied. After the
water monitoring plan, which sould include pump tests, is
supplied, this can be evaluated. 2.09.7(1)(b) (see section
2.05.6(3) regarding water monitoring)
(2)
