p. 2
Preliminary Adequacy Review - Grassy Creek Mine
April 28, 1981
associated with. This information could be presented on the lithologic
logs requested above.
2. On page II. E-3 of the application, there is a statement about the
position and size of a recharge zone in the area of the mine site. The
applicant must be more specific with respect to this recharge zone.
Locate the zone on the geologic map. What strata comprises the aquifer
which occupies this recharge zone? What is the relationship between this
aquifer and the proposed mine? Please specify the depth below the mined
interval as well as the lateral distance of the recharge zone from the
mine. What are the lithologic units (strata) separating the mined interval
from the aquifer? Please supply this information to comply with 2.04.7(1).
3. Analyses of ground water occuring within the permit area must be
included. Please refer to the list of parameters given in the Appendix
of this letter for water quality analysis. Please contact the Division for the
required monitoring schedule.
2.09.7(2) Surface Water Information
1.. The applicant must supply at least 12 consecutive months of surface
water data to comply with 2.04.7(2)(b). If any data has been collected
since the last sample date in the application, please supply this infor-
mation.
2. Whenever surface water quality data is reported, measurements of
flow should also be given. No flow data is given in any of the analytical
reports of water quality included in the application. This information is
necessary to establish the relationship between flow and the concentration
of various parameters.
2.04.7(3) Alternative Water Supply Data
1. The applicant must address this section with respect to surface water.
What are alternative sources of water which could be used to supply down-
stream users if the mining operation results in diminution of the quality
or quantity of water.
2. Since there is not sufficient information to assess the effect of ~,
the mining operation on aquifers an the area, the applicant's response
on page II. G-1 is at this time inadequate. when the information on the .
existence of any aquifers is submitted, a determination can be made as to
whether or not alternative sources of water are necessary.
2.09.8 Climatological Information
The applicant should supply data for the average direction and velocity
of the prevailing winds to comply with 2.04.8(1)(b). This information
should be available from one of the climate stations used.
