~+
816.101 BACKFILLING AMID GRADING: GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
a) Timm ~ ofp backfi lin and-1 ra)din
g g g g•
(1) Contour mining
Not applicable - contour mining practices are
not followed.
(2) Open pit mining with thin overburden
The applicant cites 3 examples of overburden
calculations ranging from 30 feet to 120 feet
of thickness. All 3 calculations show that the
final thickness is more than 0.8 of the initial
thickness, accounting for coal removal, thus
the provisions of this section do not apply.
Applicant demonstrates that this overburden is
not present.
Will Comply.
(3) Area strip mining - rough backfilling and
grading within 180 days following coal removal.
General compliance is planned in normal operations
but approval for two exceptions is requested.
The first exception is requested in order to increase
' coal recovery. In order to avoid interference
with a drainage channel, the box cut is. planned
to diverge scmewhat from the line of cuts to be
made as mining progresses. This procedure
maximizes coal recovery at the northeastern end
of the 8050 pits but places the open box cut at
the northwestern end out of -each for backfilling
until stripping in 1482 and 1983 swings back to
that area.

-75-
