The open air shaft and inclined shaft
at the Royal Gorge mine involved the placement of steel and precast concrete slabs over the
existing openings. Pit over hoist shaft is 10' in diameter, 1' deep; pit over air shaft
is 20' in diameter, 4' deep; last two pits are 3' and 30' in diameter and are, respectively,
3' and 2' deep.
Simon-Smith *: Reference 2 notes that the shaft was sunk in an effort to reach the Rockvale bed, an
Shaft estimated 570' below the surface.
Smith-Tanner *: Horizontal opening and collapse pit.
