TABLE TWO -- fREMONT COUNTY
MINE NAME COMMENTS ON FEATURES
_
Canon National S: _
Three subsidence pits. One pit 10' in diameter, 15' deep, due to collapse around air shaft;
(cont.) second pit 30' long, 15' wide, 10' deep, possibly due to collapse over incline; third pit
30' in diameter, 20' deep, due to collapse over room.
Reclamation plans (may be an active mining permit area) -- Backfill the vertical opening
using a graded fill technique and the subsidence pit using common fill. All fill will be
off-site. Backfilled areas will be topsoiled and revegetated.
Canon Quality Z: Reference 1 notes mine in the same location as Little Johnny Mine, but different seam.
Canon Wolf *: Reference 1 indicates that the "Central" shaft (T) is 1087' deep.
Park
(Littell)
(Central)
f_.edar Canon Reclamation in progress (fall 1983) -- Backfill the ad it at the base of the strip mine higt
wall and redirect the mine pit drainage away from the opening. Construct sediment ponds it
the immediate area. Seed and mulch the adjacent barren development waste area.
Chandler D: Water draining from vertical air shaft. Old fan house at top of shaft is concrete struc-
(Chandler Park) ture rising 6' above ground level and is 10' long by 12' wide; fan house has concrete cap.
On 10/24/80 water was draining from 4"x6" opening near top of fan house; on 11/12/80 water
was draining from hole at base of fan house. Rate of flow unknown but sufficient to fill
pond 50' in diameter during one of the dryer months of the year.
Reclamation (awaiting landowner consent) of Chandler airshaft -- Replace the deteriorating
concrete cap and divert existing drainage through a pipe in the side of the collar.
Sample and analyze drain water and design treatment system if needed.
Key to unique features symbols: Z Multiple mining zones
* Mine opening information
Reclamation and/or plans -- Table Two S Subsidence features
lists hazard abatement work F Mine fires
+ Discrepancy between two sources D Mine drainage -40-
