trE~ <br />zones. The diversion to pond MB-5 in this area may need more positive gradient 711 r1( <br />y <br />to ensure affected area runoff is not bypassing the pond. We next inspected the <br />Sylvester Gulch Fan Site which is one of the SAE's described above. No <br />problems were noted with surface water runoff on the area. There is a <br />permitted NPDES mine water discharge point at this location which the <br />permittee indicated has not been used in years. Mine water discharge is <br />currently occurring at the mine access portal. Pond MB-i was inspected next. A <br />small culvert on the south side of pond needs to be cleaned out. There were <br />also small differential settling cracks noticed surrounding a water line access <br />pipe. We also observed the potential seep zone located at the northwest corner <br />of the pond embankment, with no noticeable flow. We concluded the inspection <br />with observations of pond FW-1, coal storage area, and the mine access portal <br />and associated storage yards. DMG directed the permittee to clean a culvert <br />located on the road to the power substation pad. The permittee cleaned the <br />culvert during the inspection. The permittee indicated a MR would be submitted <br />to install a 1/2 round culvert at this location. This concluded the inspection of <br />8/11. <br />We finished the field inspection the morning of 8/12 with observations of the <br />9 <br />
