The entire access road is not shown due to its length and the scale of the site map. The
entire access road is shown on the PROJECT LOCATION MAP, 1" = 300' submitted on
February 6, 2003 with the update on the Sunday Mine, Permit M-1977-285; this regional map
shows all features associated with the Sunday group of mines.
East Edge of Dumn; Slopes and Gradients; Area North of Dumb
The eastern dump toe is less than 10 feet from drainage thalweg; provide slope
gradient information and sediment control measures. The area to the north of the dump needs
to be shown correctly on the map.
Response:
Runoff around the eastern side of the dump follows the dump toe and leads to a
catchment berm around the periphery of the dump toe; no runoff escapes to the drainage
thalweg. The current site surveys were conducted using GPS. For every measurement point
on the map, an elevation is available as well as the `x' and `y' locations of the points. Spot
elevations have been printed on the map to aid in determining slope gradients as well as in
preparing final reclamation contour maps.
The area to the north below the dump toe has also been surveyed and is shown
correctly on the new site map. At present, the main features in this area are the catchment
berms.
Topsoil Stocknile; Power line Location:
Provide an estimate of the volume of the existing topsoil stockpile and describe how it
is protected. Show the correct location of the power line. Are there other electrical structures
on site? Show electrical installations and note ownership.
Response:
The existing topsoil stockpile contains approximately 350 yd3 of topsoil. The
stockpile is stable and secure as it located on a slope that does not collect runoff and which is
not in any drainage paths. The pile has revegetated naturally and is not eroding.
The power line location shown on the map submitted by the Operator in 1998 is not
correct in relation to the dump. The power pole noted in the inspector's review did not in fact
stand in the middle of a topsoil stockpile as shown on the map submitted by the Operator in
1998; the pole was in undisturbed ground adjacent to the dump toe. The new site map
submitted with the Annual Report shows the current and correct relationship between all
features at the Topaz Mine site. The power line into the Topaz Mine has been removed by the
local power provider. No electric transformers remain on site, although electric switchgear is
still present.
Drill Road and Diversions:
The original 1980 site map showed a drill road and drill hole location on the hill above
the portal. In 1997 diversions were observed, and these need to be shown on the map.
Resnonse:
The updated map submitted with the Annual Report on January 28, 2003 shows the
diversion structures on the hill above the portal.
2
