Colowyo C-1981-019 <br />8 January 2007 <br />Pg 3/9 ~-~ <br />Hydrologic Balance (cont.): -The West Pit Pond (NPDES 008A) contained a small pool <br />of water and was not discharging at the time of the inspection. There was also a <br />small pool of water in the presettling sump at the inlet of the pond. The pond <br />embankment was well vegetated and appeared to be stable at the time of the <br />inspection. No erosional problems noted on the embankment at the time of the <br />inspection. The emergency spillway is an open, trapezoidal riprapped channel. The <br />spillway was stable and well maintained at the time of the inspection. <br />-The East Taylor Pond (NPDES O1 OA) contained a small pool of water at the bottom <br />and was not discharging at the time of the inspection. The pond embankment was <br />well vegetated and appeared to be stable at the time of the inspection. No <br />erosional problems noted on the embankment at the time of the inspection. The <br />emergency spillway is an open, trapezoidal riprapped channel. The spillway was <br />stable and well maintained at the time of the inspection. The water that is being <br />pumped from the Section 4 area of the West Pit is being pumped into the riprapped <br />spillway of the East Taylor Pond. The diffuser appears to be working very well as there <br />were no erosional problems noted in the spillway at the time of the inspection. See <br />the pictures following this inspection report regarding the pumping. <br />-The Rail Loop Pond (NPDES QObA) contained water approximately three feet below <br />the spillway and was not discharging at the time of the inspection. The pond <br />embankment was well vegetated and appeared to be stable at the time of the <br />inspection. No erosional problems noted on the embankment at the time of the <br />inspection. The emergency spillway is an open, trapezoidal riprapped channel. The <br />spillway was stable and well maintained at the time of the inspection. There are two <br />large piles of sediment/coal fines at the inlet of the pond from the cleaning of the <br />train tunnel. <br />-The Stoker Siding Pond (NPDES 005A) contained water approximately four feet <br />below the discharge pipe and was discharging an immeasurable trickle through the <br />weep hole at the time of the inspection. The pond embankment was well vegetated <br />and appeared to be stable at the time of the inspection. No erosional problems <br />noted on the embankment at the time of the inspection. The emergency spillway is <br />an open, trapezoidal riprapped channel. The spillway was stable and well <br />maintained at the time of the inspection. This pond was not cleaned this year. <br />-The Prospect Pond (NPDES 007A) contained water approximately four feet below <br />the discharge pipe and was not discharging at the time of the inspection. The pond <br />embankment was well vegetated and appeared to be stable at the time of the <br />inspection. No erosional problems noted on the embankment at the time of the <br />inspection. The emergency spillway is an open, trapezoidal riprapped channel. The <br />spillway was stable and well maintained at the time of the inspection. <br />
