from the weight of the material sometime afterward. No other trees were similarly
ted, though several grow around the base of the pile.
Field measurements were taken to spot-check the ditches' construction and to check
slope steepness on the OWDA. Measurements taken were approximate and were as
follows:
A. OWDA:
1. @ pt. on the pile's north end:
"slope steepness = 31 ° or 60%
2. @ pt. on the pile's south end:
'slope steepness = 30° or 58%
B. East ditch:
1. @ pt. near cross section HH-HH, about 50' from the pond 2 inlet:
`top width = 7'; bottom width = 2'; depth = 20"
C. Culvert R:
" 30" diameter CMP (21"required); both ends clear
D. West ditch:
1. @ pt. near cross section FF-FF:
'top width = 5.5'; bottom width = 18"; depth = 11"
NOTE: This ditch is not well defined due to weathering and use of the
road; no drainage problems were noted but the dimensions appeared
minimal
Conclusions
Some questions remain that should be addressed before a determination of compliance
can be made for all aspects of the piles that we checked. One question arose during
our review of information at the mine office concerning dimensions and attendant
capacities of some ditches. DMG planned to double heck the dimensions to see if the
the east underdrain as
still necessar~or dropped from the pergpit_if.097.J.ast, de_ pths of non-toxic, non-
combustible ma_ terial o_n th,~piles_should be verified to ensure com~ance with t '
requirement of 4.10.4(5)_ Otherwise, the permittee should be aware t a additional
material could be required at a later date when cover depths are checked if they are
found to be insufficient.
11
