07/08/2004 15:13 19703022515 ~ LAMS 8 RT ASSOCIATES
PN: D04155GE
July 8, 2004
Page 2
Our services will consist of a geotechnical engineering Eeld and laboratory study of the subsoil and
slope conditions at the Eureka Gravel Pit sift to provide geottxhnieal engineering assessment,
suggestions and rewtrtmendations. Our services to be provided are otrtlined below.
- The field study will consists of obsetvittg, describing, and sampling the soil materials
encountered in about two (2) [o three (3) test borings along County Road 25 and one (1) to
two (2) test borings at the roe of [hc slope. We will perform detailed observations of the
slope area as part of the field study.
- ideally we would like to obtain subsurface infotme[ion from near the mid-elevation of the
eroding area, however we understand that construction of a roadway along the mid<levation
of the slope is outside of the mining permitted area. We feel that construction of this access
roadway may further de-stabilize the slope area.
- We anticipate that San loan County will provide traffic control during advancement of the
test borings along County Aoad 25.
- We will require a detailed map showing the pre-rrdning topography of the site, if this
information is available, and a topographic map of the current slope configuration.
- We plan to use our truck mounted continuous flight auger drill rig to advance the test
borings.
- The soil materials encountered in the test borings will be observed, described and samples
will be retrieved f'or the subsequent laboratory study. Based on the data obtained, logs of the
test borings will be prepared.
- The laboratory study wilt consist of tests to help assess the soli strength potential of the
materials sampled where appropriate.
We anticipate that the laboratory study will include the following:
two (2) direct sheaz tests to measure soil strength design parameters.
three (3) Sieve analysis tests,
three (3) At[erberg Limits tests,
moisture content and dry density tests wi[1 be performed on the sttengt[; and swell-
consohdation test samples.
