bottom liner. After closure, each mined area will be removed from the permit, and
the closure cost estimate and funding mechanism modified to reflect the removal.
2.6 Size and Location of Each Mined Area (Rule 6.4.4(e)(ii))
The size and location of each mine area is presented on Figure D-1.
2.7 Sequencing of Mining (Rule 6.4.4(e)(iii))
As described in Section 2.5, mining in Area 1 will coincide in part with the future
waste disposal needs of the communities and businesses served by the landfill. The
mining of clay soils is incidental to disposal cell construction versus the primary
activity performed at the mine. Additionally, the sequencing and size of each mined
area will correlate to cell construction with clay removal and stockpiling incidental
to the construction. Area 2 will be activated and remain active through the mining
life of Area 1, although the size of area utilized in Area 2 may fluctuate as clay
stockpiles are depleted between cell construction events.
2.8 Map of Mining Plan (Rule 6.4.4(f))
A Mining Plan is provided as Figure D-1.
2.9 Primary/Secondary Commodities (Rule 6.4.4(g))
The primary commodity resulting from mining is clay soils suitable for manufacture
of fired brick and tile, or similar. No secondary commodities will result from
mining.
2.10 Incidental Products (Rule 6.4.4(h))
Incidental products to clay mining include excavated overburden soils. These soils
will be utilized in waste management activities, including daily and intermediate
cover, general earth construction, and cell liner and final cover construction.
2.11 Use of Explosives (Rule 6.4.4(i))
Explosives will not be used in mining.
2.12 Roadways (Rule 6.4.4(j)
The mine is accessed from US Route 85 onto Delva Way, approximately 1/2 mile
northwest of Sedalia, Colorado. The driveway for Delva Way from US Route 85 is
60-feet wide, 4-lane, concrete. The driveway and subsequent roadways (to both the
landfill and electric cooperative equipment yard) are subject to heavy traffic
associated with the respective uses.
