Sedgwick County Road and Bridge Soil Borrow Area to Gravel Pit Conversion Page 9
110(c)Operation Reclamation Permit July 3, 2025
Figure 4 provides pre-mining site topography and imagery that were part of the original
Construction Borrow Area Permit application documentation. The approximate boundary of the
area of actual disturbance is also noted, and was derived from more cent aerial imagery, supported
by a May 2025 site survey carried out by AEC. This information can be seen on Figure 5.
By applying the contour information and imagery provided on Figures 4 and 5,AEC determined
that approximately 13,550 cubic yards of soil has been removed from the site as part of the borrow
operations. Plans for final reclamation and closure of the site are provided in Exhibit D.
The excavated material consisted of clayey sand and gravel, but no specific records of geotechnical
properties of the excavated soils was proved to AEC by SCRB. In addition, retrospective
information on the precise sequencing and monthly production records were not available to AEC
and only a record of post-mining conditions is essential to the current plan to close and reclaim the
site.
3.2 Access Road
A single road was constructed as primary access to the soil removal operations as shown on Figure
5. This driveway has direct access to County Road 28 and is a dirt road approximately 30-feet
wide. The access road is included in the disturbed area survey boundary.
3.3 Water Use
No water was used for the mining operation. Water is not expected to be used for reclamation
unless hydro mulching is done. If Hydromulching is used, approximately 21,000 gallons of water
could be consumed. This is estimated by assuming a 3.1 acre area to reclaim and water requirement
rate from erosion control products information guide from Mat, Inc (Appendix C).
Water trucks shall provide the water for hydromulching if it is used.
3.4 Water Diversions and Impoundments
The original Construction Borrow Area Permit include the preparation and submittal of a
Stormwater Management Plan. This plan is provided as Appendix A for general reference. The
general understanding is that the prior excavation operations at the site conformed to the provisions
outlined in the SWMP. On-site water impoundments do not provide retention of water for more
than 72-hours and the operation caused no injury to existing water rights.
