material forms a 2H:1 V slope that extends all the way to the top and sides of the exposed
highwall.
Stockpile areas will be marked in the field by the PROJECT MANAGER. Large fill material must
be placed first followed by smaller fill material or as directed by the PROJECT MANAGER. Once
backfilling is complete, all borrow areas must be graded to a slope of 2H:1V or less.
Measurement and Payment
There will be no measurement for payment for this task. Payment shall be for the lump sum bid
price under Item 7.1 of the Bid Schedule. The lump sum bid shall include all costs for labor,
equipment, materials, fuel and all others items necessary to backfill the highwall as described in
Item 7.1. Payment will be made upon completion of this task and approval from the PROJECT
MANAGER.
Item 7.2: Surface Roughening and Revegetation
All areas disturbed during reclamation work including access routes and any other areas
specified in these Special Conditions or by the PROJECT MANAGER will be revegetated
according to the Revegetation specification, SWS 20. Approximately one and one-half (1.5)
acres will be revegetated.
Prior to seeding, the compacted ground surface will be roughened to minimize erosion and to
promote better vegetative development. Surface roughening will be accomplished in the
following manner:
Two (2) tons of certified weed-free straw mulch per acre will be evenly distributed over the
ground surface. Once mulch has been applied over an area, an excavator bucket will be used
to intensely roughen the surface by creating numerous gouges. Bucket size shall not exceed
four feet (4') in width and the depth of the gouges shall be between twelve inches (12") and
eighteen inches (18") deep. Gouges must not exceed eighteen inches (18") in depth. Gouges
shall span the entire width of the disturbed area from edge to edge with the pattern alternating
(off-set) between each row. Gouges must be placed close enough so that no more than eighteen
inches (18") exist between any two gouges, in any direction, both vertical and horizontal.
Commercial fertilizer, Triton 4-6-2 (N-P-K), or approved equivalent, is required for this project
and must be provided by CONTRACTOR. The fertilizer will be distributed at a rate of six hundred
(600) pounds per acre. CONTRACTOR will hand broadcast fertilizer over all disturbed areas
following scarification. Liquid application is also acceptable.
CONTRACTOR shall provide a total of nine hundred (900) pounds of fertilizer and three (3) tons
of straw mulch to complete this task. Straw mulch must be certified as noxious weed-free by an
authorized state or county officer. Documentation of certification must be provided to the
PROJECT MANAGER prior to application of mulch.
Seed will be supplied by OWNER. A region specific native seed mix — High Elevation Meadow,
Coniferous Woodland/Forest and Aspen (Zone 5) —will be used on all areas.
Rev. 07/07/2023
