Measurement and Payment
Payment for this task will be made at the unit price established in Item 5.0 of the Bid Schedule.
Measurement for payment will be made to the nearest cubic yard of fill material delivered to the
work site. The price bid for loading and transporting fill material shall include all costs for labor,
materials, equipment, fuel and all other items necessary and incidental to complete the task as
describe. Payment shall be as this task is completed and approved by the PROJECT
MANAGER. Material quantities are estimated and full expenditure of this Bid Item is NOT
GUARANTEED.
Item 6.0: Construct Boulder Barrier
A boulder barrier will be constructed along the edge of the road adjacent to feature #455 to
prohibit vehicular access. Boulders will be collected on site within five hundred (500) feet of the
closure. The barrier will be approximately eighty (80) feet in length and require up to twelve
(12) boulders to construct. Boulders to be used and placement locations will be flagged in the
field by the PROJECT MANAGER.
Measurement and Payment
Payment for this task will be made at the unit price established in Item 6.0 of the Bid Schedule.
Measurement for payment will be made for each boulder collected and placed. The price bid for
constructing the boulder barrier shall include all costs for labor, materials, equipment, fuel and
all other items necessary and incidental to complete the task as describe. Payment shall be as
this task is completed and approved by the PROJECT MANAGER. Material quantities are
estimated and full expenditure of this Bid Item is NOT GUARANTEED.
Item 7.0: Alps Junction Quarry Reclamation
The following tasks will cover reclamation activities at the Alps Junction bond forfeiture site.
Item 7.1: Highwall Backfill
This Item covers the mitigation of the Alps Junction highwall by backfilling and slope reduction.
CONTRACTOR is responsible for the excavation, transport, and placement of up to two
thousand (2,000) cubic yards of fill material. Fill will be collected from several onsite stockpiles
and placed against the highwall to a height of 20-25 feet above the pit floor. Fill will be placed in
two (2) foot lifts until a slope of roughly 1.5-21-1:1 V is created. Each lift shall be thoroughly
compacted using tracked or wheeled equipment or other mechanical compaction technique.
Compaction will consist of a minimum of two (2) passes over all areas so that track/tire marks
overlap one another.
Once the lower portion of the highwall has been backfilled, the approximately fifteen (15) feet of
remaining upper highwall will be reduced to achieve a 31-1:1 V slope. Excavated material shall be
placed and compacted on the surface of the lower backfill to further reduce the slope. One
hundred fifty (150) linear feet of upper slope will be reduced generating approximately five
hundred (500) cubic yards of fill material. NOTE: If the upper highwall cannot be excavated,
CONTRACTOR will be required to utilize a hydraulic hammer attachment to achieve the required
grade.
The finished backfilled slope must extend the entire width of the highwall and blend into the
surrounding topography. The highwall backfill will be considered complete when compacted
Rev. 07/07/2023
