4.0 WEED MANAGEMENT PLAN PURPOSE & OBJECTIVES
The purpose of the noxious weed management plan is to facilitate eradicating or controlling the
spread of noxious weeds in the management area. The operator acknowledges that normal
business activities may promote the spread of noxious weeds on the mine site and that a weed
management program is necessary. The plan will discuss how noxious weeds will be managed
around the mine site, with early detection protocols and practices to monitor and minimize the
spread of noxious weeds being outlined.
It is likely not possible to totally eradicate the noxious weeds from the mine since much of the
surrounding property is not owned by the Operator, nor managed for noxious weed control by
the current owners. These uncontrolled areas are the seed sources for the infestation occurring
on the mine.
The Operator will do biennial checks on the mine for any noxious weeds. Implementation of this
plan will begin in the fall of 2023 and will continue as needed until the state determines that final
reclamation is complete.
5.0 MANAGEMENT AND CONTROL METHODS
The previously listed noxious weeds may be controlled or eradicated by using mechanical,
biological, or chemical control measures depending on the species. A single control technique
is rarely sufficient to control a particular weed species. The best results are usually obtained by
combining different control methods in a coordinated effort. In the event of chemical or
herbicide use on site, the Operator will comply with all State of Colorado and federal laws and
regulations regulating the handling, storage, use and disposal of those chemicals and
herbicides.
Records of weed control activities, including dates the work was done, methods used, areas
sprayed, and types/quantities of chemical used, if any, will be kept at the corporate office in
Pueblo, Colorado for review.
5.1 OVERALL SITE PREVENTATIVE MEASURES
The following overall preventative measures will be implemented to prevent the spread of
noxious weeds at the site:
• A copy of the weed management program will be provided to the mine site manager
and contractors operating on the mine site.
• Summit Brick Company's mine site manager will be trained on control measures to be
implemented, in accordance with this weed management plan. This includes learning
how to identify high priority weed species in the field.
• Biennial inspections of roads and disturbed areas for weed establishment will be
conducted.
• Travel will be restricted to established roads whenever possible.
• Disturbed areas will be seeded with seed mix approved in the Reclamation Plan
following completion of activities to reduce the potential for the establishment and
spread of noxious weeds. Seeding should occur as soon as possible following
completion of activity and during the optimal seasonal growing period and limit the use
of fertilizers when reseeding; their use rfia'y favor weeds over native perennial species.
SUMMIT BRICK AND TILE COMPANY-EDMUNDSON CLAY MINE NOVEMBER 2023
