November 9, 2023 C-1981-019/Colowyo Coal Mine ZTT

Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 3
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 2

Reach 1 of FEPD with rock gabions. Section 15 pond.
West Pit:

Three ditches within the West Pit were inspected along with the associated stock ponds. This included the Taylor
Ditch, East Taylor Ditch and Buckskin Ditch. The Buckskin ditch has only a portion constructed at the moment
and is located in the eastern portion of the West Pit. A new portion of the Taylor Ditch had recently been
constructed. The area was in need of final touches to meet approved specifications as approved in the Colowyo
PAP once ground conditions allowed. The Taylor Ditch is lined with rip rap for its entirety and no issues were
observed. The East Taylor Ditch is mostly lined with rip rap with a portion that is a vegetated channel just above
stock pond ETD1. The lower portion of the East Taylor Ditch recently received maintenance and remains stable.
No issues were observed with all ditches or associated stock ponds within the West Pit.

The West Pit Pond and East Taylor Pond are associated with the West Pit and were inspected. The West Pit Pond
was dry and the East Taylor Pond held water and was discharging at the time of the inspection. Most of the water
received from the East Taylor Pond comes from a spoil spring located just above the pond. The spring has been
intercepted by a french drain which diverts the water to a flume where flow can be measured. Water elevations
within the pond were high. Aquatic vegetative overgrowth noted in the Division’s September inspection has been
removed from the primary spillway allowing for proper discharge to occur and water levels in the pond to lower.
