Revegetation
Fertilization Type, mixture, quantities, and time of application
Add straw or hay mulch as an option for the mine site using a tractor with a crimper and
a rate of 1-4 tons per acre.
No other changes in this section
EXHIBIT G -Water Information
The pit intersected groundwater during mining. An application was filled and approved on
February 12, 2007 by the Colorado Groundwater Commission to construct a well and
appropriate ground water in the Kiowa-Bijou designated ground water basin permit number
65324-F. Well number 65324-F is superseded by well permit 84062-F. The well permit was
updated to include additional groundwater water rights that General Shale applied for, and the
Division of Water Resources granted. The aquifer is the Lower Dawson Aquifer.
Per paragraph 4 of the well permit the maximum water area exposed is limited to 4.137 acres.
Per paragraph a of the groundwater permit 65324-F General Shale is required prevent surface
water from entering the pit using berms or other barriers. General Shale has installed a
perimeter berm and ditch around the crest of the highwall to prevent surface water from entering
the pit and divert stormwater flows around the pit. Where grades are steep enough to cause
erosion and head cuts, check dams will be installed to minimize erosion. This configuration will
follow the life of the mine as mining progresses east.
It is anticipated that 600,000 gallons per year will be used for dust suppression during mining
and reclamation activity. This water will originate from the mining pit using the well permit
number 84062-F
A combined stormwater and discharge permit was permitted through CDPHE permit number
COG501606.
The pit will be backfilled 1'-5' above the static groundwater elevation.
