Colorado Division roject of Reclamation, <br /> Mining & Safety <br /> LEVICY MINE REVOCATION PROJECT <br /> Gunnison County, Colorado <br /> Permit No. M-1978-79 <br /> Project Location and Background <br /> The Levicy Mine is located approximately 48 miles from _ <br /> Gunnison, near Taylor Park Reservoir, in Gunnison County, <br /> Colorado. The site is 5.5 miles from the intersection of <br /> Forest Road 584 (the Tellurium Creek Drainage) and Forest <br /> Road 742, and can be accessed from Forest Road 584. The }- <br /> elevation of the site is approximately 12,000 ft. The '' } �"„ <br /> project area spans the ridge between the Tellurium Creek ' : y T = ~' Z '" } <br /> drainage and the Pine Creek drainage, with mine features <br /> located on both sides of the ridge. 4. <br /> , �� <br /> i " �s y r <br /> The purpose of this project was to reclaim several open 4r- <br /> mine <br /> mine features, located on public lands, managed by the Y <br /> United States Forest Service (USFS). The Levicy Mine Main Adit entrance prior to activities <br /> was permitted by the State of Colorado in 1978 as a silver <br /> and lead mining operation. The mine was operated <br /> sporadically until approximately 1998. The Levicy Mining .�:, <br /> and Reclamation Permit was revoked and the financial <br /> warranty was forfeited in 2004. The Division of ,+ <br /> Reclamation, Mining and Safety reclaimed this site using . #,�� r / .. <br /> the forfeited bond money and funding provided by the f " �,` ,� <br /> USFS. ' �� <br /> The project consisted of safeguarding one open adit, one -t '•• '„ •� <br /> open shaft, one collapsing shaft, and one exploration pit. T - • <br /> Additional reclamation activities included demolition and trAir ♦ , <br /> removal of two small structures, the removal of trash and <br /> Open Shaft,located above the main adit,during construction of <br /> debris associated with the mine, and the grading of the the PUF bottom form. <br /> mine access road to allow proper, non-erosive drainage of <br /> water from the road surface.
