labor, materials, equipment, transportation and all other items and materials necessary and
incidental to the completion of Item 6.0.
ITEM 7.0— SAFEGUARD NORTHWEST HIGHWALL AND SITE GRADING
The CONTRACTOR will safeguard a five hundred fifty foot (550 ft) long section of highwall averaging
twelve feet (12 ft) in height (See attached Site Plan). Approximately 2,500 cy of material will need to
be graded via cut and fill. Please note this figure is an estimate and the CONTRACTOR is
responsible for verifying all estimates prior to bid submittal. No outside fill or organic matter shall be
utilized for backfill or site grading unless approved by the PROJECT MANAGER.
The highwall will be safeguarded by excavating the top edge of the highwall and using available
onsite materials to grade the highwall down to a slope with three feet of horizontal distance for every
one foot of fall (3h:1v slope). Placed material shall be compacted with mechanical compaction
techniques approved by the PROJECT MANAGER. Thorough compaction shall consist of a
minimum of two (2) passes with a CAT D6 dozer (or equivalent) over all areas so that the marks
overlap one another. Equipment shall be tracked forward in a single pass and return along the same
path.
Final grade elevations must be approved by the PROJECT MANAGER before revegetation begins.
Measurement and Payment
No measurement for payment shall be made for safeguarding the highwall and site grading. Payment
will be lump sum for Item 7.0 on the Bid Schedule. The price bid for Item 7.0 will cover all costs for
completing the activities required under this Task. Payment shall be as this task is completed and
approved by the PROJECT MANAGER. Such payment shall be considered full compensation for all
labor, materials, equipment, transportation and all other items and materials necessary and
incidental to the completion of Item 7.0.
ITEM 8.0— SEEDING & REVEGETATION
Following earthwork activities, the CONTRACTOR shall seed the mine pit floor, newly graded slopes,
and all areas disturbed by reclamation activities. This includes any areas disturbed for access. Any
previously prepared seedbed areas compacted or damaged by interim rains, traffic, or other cause,
shall be reworked to restore the ground condition previously specified prior to seeding. It is estimated
that eight (8) acres will need to be reseeded. Areas will be revegetated utilizing seed drilling and hydro-
seed methods described in Item 8.1 and Item 8.2 below and in accordance to the Revegetation
Specifications, Section 20.0 in the General Bid Specifications, 2009.
Application of materials must be accomplished in a manner that results in a consistent, complete,
through and even distribution of seed to all ground surfaces. Seeding methods will be used so as to not
disturb existing vegetation established on site. CONTRACTOR must supply the labor and equipment
required to complete the seed application and mulching. The CONTRACTOR is responsible for
supplying the required seed mix shown in Table 2 below. The seed ticket(s) clearly displaying the
required seed mix and pounds pure live seed must be furnished to the PROJECT MANAGER before
seed application begins.
